I had the incredible opportunity this past weekend to travel to New York City to visit the Davines North American headquarters and for a custom cut and color at their flagship salon, ION STUDIO NYC. I would like to give a massive thank you to Davines for selecting me as the grand prize winner for the 2018 Harvest Beauty photo journal competition.

Exploring by Foot
Hello, New York! The adventure began with an Uber ride from JFK airport to the Davines North American headquarters in lower Manhattan. It was awesome! You could feel the creativity and connectivity as you entered the space. True to Davines style, there were tons of plants, floral patterns, and products neatly displayed everywhere. It was a treat to stop by and meet the team that had selected my entry. Afterwards, I wandered my way to my hotel, passing corner parks packed with pedestrians, boutiques, juice bars, tiny neighborhood groceries, and of course, classic New York traffic.
The Standard, East Village
The Standard, East Village is a quirky boutique hotel with a luxurious, eccentric charm. Admittedly, I walked past it several times because the main entrance blended in with the environment. I loved the cloud-inspired ceiling art in front of the lobby elevators. Fair warning: the décor is cool, but finding your way through the dimly-lit corridors can be both disorienting and challenging.
My room felt artistic, cozy, and simple. I was pleasantly surprised to see Davines haircare and bodycare items in the bathroom – my hosts selected the most divine-smelling shampoo and conditioner combination.
A Wet Walk through SoHo
Sleeping in on Saturday morning was perfect – it was a rainy, cold, wet day in New York! I huddled up in a Starbucks near the salon to doodle after checking out of the hotel. Walking around in the pouring rain just didn’t seem like fun without my rain boots.
ION STUDIO NYC
Now for my visit to ION STUDIO NYC: wow. I was paired with Alicia, a sweet colorist from Sweden, who would complete my entire transformation. She was welcoming, kind, and friendly. She took her time with the cut, demonstrating utmost precision. She kept the conversation going as she expertly placed the color, sharing her early start in Sweden and her big move to New York City nearly three years ago. The beauty industry needs more passionate people like Alicia who strive for excellence. It was a treat to have Alicia do my hair. The atmosphere of ION STUDIO NYC is vibrant, luxurious, and simplistic with a natural + industrial aesthetic.
A warm, honey blonde with soft layers.
I feel refreshed.
New hair, new travels, new friends, and a brand new job that started this past Monday.
God has sent an abundance of blessings my way and I am forever grateful.
What have you all been getting into this January?
